Mentoring

At XIE, we believe that even the slightest positive influence has the potential to change a student’s life. Hence, mentoring has been introduced at our institute for each and every student across all the departments. Additionally, mentoring is a required activity promoted by NAAC (The National Assessment and Accreditation Council) and NBA (The National Board of Accreditation) in all the educational institutions.

Rev. Fr. Dudley Mendonca, SJ, a professional psychologist was invited to the institute to train our faculty to mentor students so that they could benefit from such mentoring effective mentoring. These sessions were scheduled for all the faculty members on September 29, October 6 and October 13, 2018.

The purpose of the training sessions was to acquaint the faculty about planned mentoring so that they acquire skills, knowledge and the ability to engage in useful mentoring. It was made clear that mentoring when effective is unbiased and it gives them a capability of identifying the qualities and abilities in the students and developing them. It identifies the hurdles in their engineering lives which are difficult to overcome and, at the same time gives them the ability to succeed.

The faculty members are well-schooled in the basic principles of psychology particularly those related to student behaviour which underlies the learning process in the students and can guide the faculty to optimize the students’ learning, participation, and of overall engagement and wellbeing. The faculty is equipped to use a variety of activities to create mentoring that can accommodate different cases of students and can help to develop and reinforce skills or knowledge in them.
